What is the difference between Style 1916 and Style 1816?
Answer: The difference is entirely in the waistband. The 1916 features a 1.5-inch elastic-free, continuous fabric "self-knit" waistband that sits smoothly against the skin. The 1816 features a traditional, rigid elastic waistband. Parents and dancers heavily favor the 1916 because it prevents the tight elastic from digging into the waist or causing sensory irritation under a leotard.
How do I choose the right size, and do they run small?
Answer: While they generally fit according to Capezio's size chart, dance parents overwhelmingly recommend sizing up if your child is right on the border between sizes.
What does "Transition" mean and how do they use the hole?
Answer: A transition tight has a small, reinforced opening on the sole of the foot. This allows the dancer to easily pull the tights up over their ankles to go barefoot (for modern or contemporary dance), to adjust toe pads/spacers for pointe work, or to simply wear flip-flops after class without having to take their entire pair of tights off.
Quick Tip for Dance Parents
If you find that the waistband is digging into your child's waist too tightly, a classic "dance parent hack" is to take a pair of scissors and make 3 to 4 tiny vertical snips (about 1 cm deep) strictly into the waistband elastic. This relieves the tight tension around the waist immediately without causing the rest of the tights to run or unravel!
