How To Get Over Your First Day Jitters of Dance Class
The first day of dance class can feel overwhelming with new people, and you aren't sure what to expect on your first day.
What is helpful to know is that we’ve all been through it. At some point, we were all new, worried about our first day. Don’t worry. We only have one first day.
- Having everything ready in your dance bag the night before will help you feel less stressed about the actual day. You’ll feel prepared when walking into class.
- This might sound cliché, but be positive. Going in with a positive mindset with a smile will help you feel calmer. You’ll feel happier and be able to enjoy your first day of class.
- Find a buddy. Whenever you have a chance, introduce yourself to somebody - like the person next to you at the barre - smile, wave, or say hi. 9 out of 10, they are in the same boat as you.
- Remember that everyone is there for the same thing. To learn and become a better dancer. Teachers aren’t expecting you to get everything right the first time. Everyone learns at a different pace, so there is no reason to compare yourself to others.
Dance class is the place you can go where you can struggle while learning. We’re so worried about everything else we forget why we’re there in the first place. We’re there to become better and stronger dancers. And having fun while doing it.
